How do I install ThoughtTap?

ThoughtTap is available in the VS Code Marketplace. Search for "ThoughtTap" in the Extensions tab or visit the marketplace directly. Click Install and reload VS Code.

Is ThoughtTap free?

Yes! ThoughtTap offers a free tier with core features. We also offer a Pro tier ($2.99/month) with advanced features, specialized templates, and priority support.

What data does ThoughtTap collect?

ThoughtTap is privacy-first. Your code and prompts are processed locally on your device and never sent to our servers. We only collect minimal usage analytics to improve the service. Read our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I use my own AI API keys?

In the ThoughtTap settings, go to "AI Provider Configuration" and enter your API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, or other supported providers. Your keys are stored locally on your device and never sent to our servers.

Can I use ThoughtTap for commercial projects?

Yes! ThoughtTap can be used for both personal and commercial projects. Our Terms of Service permit commercial use with both free and Pro tiers.

How do I report a bug or security issue?

For bugs, please open an issue on GitHub. For security vulnerabilities, email security@thoughttap.com with details. Please don't publicly disclose security issues until we've had time to fix them.

What is Safe Mode?

Safe Mode prevents certain risky operations like sending custom code to external services or disabling API call restrictions. Enable it in settings for maximum security.

Can I use ThoughtTap offline?

ThoughtTap's core optimization features work offline. For AI-powered optimizations, you'll need an internet connection to communicate with your AI provider.

ThoughtTap is not appearing in VS Code

Try the following:

• Make sure you've installed the extension from the VS Code Marketplace
• Reload VS Code (Ctrl+Shift+P → Developer: Reload Window)
• Check that the extension is enabled (Extensions tab → ThoughtTap → Enable)
• Restart VS Code completely

API calls are failing

Check the following:

• Verify your API key is correct and not expired
• Check your internet connection
• Ensure your API account has available credits
• Check the ThoughtTap output console for error messages (View → Output)

ThoughtTap is running slowly

Try these optimization steps:

• Disable unnecessary optimization rules
• Reduce the number of custom templates
• Check your system resources and close unnecessary applications
• Update ThoughtTap to the latest version
